About Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park

Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park centers around the Mungyeong Saejae mountain pass, historically significant as the gateway connecting the Gyeongsang and Chungcheong provinces during the Joseon Dynasty. Spanning roughly 310 hectares, the park straddles the Sobaek Mountains in Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea. The terrain is mountainous, with lush mixed forests dominated by oak, pine, and maple trees, providing a rich habitat for diverse flora and fauna. Visitors can explore well-preserved old roads and historic village sites that once served travelers braving the steep, rugged pass. The park is renowned for its three traditional mountain pass gates – Yeongnyeong, Jungnyeong, and Innyeong – examples of Joseon-era architecture providing cultural insight and excellent photo opportunities.

Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the park for its network of scenic hiking trails that vary from gentle strolls to challenging mountain ascents. In spring and autumn, the vibrant foliage adds spectacular coloration to the landscape, making it a popular destination for seasonal leaf-viewing. The nearby Mungyeong Traditional Market and the associated historic folk village enrich the experience with local culture, traditional crafts, and cuisine. Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park is accessible year-round and beloved for blending natural beauty with historical depth, offering visitors both invigorating outdoor recreation and a journey back in time.
